On the back of the brooch it is hallmarked with 'RJW', Lion, a shield and the letter 'C' indicating the piece was hallmarked in 1851 1852 in Chester, England by Richard John Wakefield, a Birmingham jeweller from the jewellery quarter, based in Tenby Street North.
