Non Spongeware this large round serving matThe art of micromosaic developed in Rome in the eighteenth century, having been inspired by the discovery of Pompei in 1748 and a particularly beautiful mosaic that was uncovered at Hadrians Villa in 1737. This beautiful mosaic, called The Capitoline Doves inspired the mosaicists of the 18th Century to create remarkably complex and finely executed micromosaics of animals and views of the Roman Forum. This set of four Ducks was created by Giaccomo
